This forum is THE RABBITRY and a place for information involving breeds and breeding.

If you are not a breeder, you don't support breeding and you have nothing of note to contribute to a thread beyond expressing an opinion on breeding, PLEASE DON'T POST.

Rabbitry Moderators and fellow breeders should be the ones overseeing and responding to these topics. They have the knowledge and the mandate. (Breeders don't post in the 'Rescue Me' forum with suggestions like 'why not buy a purebred from a breeder?' They deserve the same courtesy in their own area).

All members are welcome to express their opinions on posts outside the Rabbitry area although all members are also being asked to remember RabbitsOnline.net is designed to be totally non-judgmental and non-confrontational. PLEASE RESPECT THAT IN EVERY AREA!

sas :thanks:

Note for Non-breeders

[line][line]
As one of the rabbitry moderators, I would like to add one thing to this.

There is nothing wrong with a non-breeder coming into a thread and posting stuff like "that's cute" or "I want that bunny" or asking questions. For instance, if you see someone sharing something that you don't like - you could ask "why do you do that?" and ask them to share.

But like the rest of RO - we want to keep this area non-judgmental and non-confrontational as much as possible.

So please feel free to chime in with your questions and comments - as long as they are not just anti-breeding.

And remember that we all make choices that others may disagree with....but how boring would life be if we all were alike? :biggrin2:

Great post Peg! I'm not into breeding myself but I totally agree with this post! I think every section on R.O should have something like this :)

What you said about the rescue forum brought up a good point... Why doesn't RO open a forum for breeders to advertise their stock, seperate from rescue me? I don't think it would get competetive, and it would be a great way for the breeders to advertise their wares, and for others who are looking to get quality stock to find what they're looking for. I'm sure there's a reason this hasn't been done already, if someone could let me know what it is, that would be good!

We would basically be providing "free advertising" to breeders and allowing them to make money off their posts on here. The leaders felt uncomfortable about that - it is hard enough to get rescues and those who work with rescues to accept the forum as it is since we "allow" breeders and we want to be open to both rescues and breeders.

To beequal to both, wouldn't it be best to make it so both groups could have equal opportunities? Many people will choose to rescue, and many will choose to get a papered rabbit. I think a breeder's advertising forum would be a great way to put breeders and buyers in touch with each other.

Perhaps, if a breeder wanted to advertise, they would be required to make a donation to RO first? Or even regular donations? It could be profitable for the forum as well as good for the breeders.

Is there any chance the mods would consider?

Hey Peg, remember the French Philosopher Voltaire once said, "I may not agree with what you're saying, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it". If I was a few decades younger I'd be there instead of just doing rescue. The only thing I deplore is irresponsible breeders, and I'm not just talking about bunnies.

The discussion has been had several times. I don't see it changing anytime soon. We don't discourage from someone buying from a breeder here. We just don't allow discussion to take place on the forum itself. :) My best advise would be when a breeder has a litter share about it in the Rabbitry. If someone is interested they can pm the breeder and handle it in pms, wouldn't be the first time.
