I think she is doingexceptionally well , she doesnt overeat and treats are very limited , sorry aboutthe wires but she insisted on staying inher cage tonight and the racingstripes she left earlier still stingfrom trying to weigh her .

WowMambo good question Ireally dont know tho , I have onlyever seen Nz whites withfirey red eyes , i know heririses are kinda an icy blue/whitebut the Red really washesaway much color , Hopefully Pamcan tell us for certain .

New Zealand "Whites" only come in white with redeyes. Black and Red are also accepted New Zealand varieties, although not as common. Blue was also an accepted New Zealandvariety years ago.

Gypsy, How old is Penelope? Mature NZ does should weigh 10-12pounds. It's hard to tell from the photo, but she does appearto be a little flabby. She could be out of condition, genetically flabby, getting too much protein or fats or over eating forher size. Very hard for me to tell without actually beingable to see her "in person". Ideally, the NZ should have arock hard, very firm flesh.

They definatelyare , I love the Nzbreed they are usually fairlydocile animals , her problem is, she wasnt really bothered with much before I gother , now tho I can at least pick her out ofher cage with minimal bleeding at least .

Before it was touch her and draw back astump , very unsocialized . But now sheis doing much better , thatsone thing i am very gratefull for lol .

I should add that the weight in itself doesn'ttell us much because weight can vary widely within a breed, she may besmall or she may not even be a purebred NZ.

Pam

Thanks Pam appreciate it ,

She feels firm , solid whenyou pick her up . not flabby ,as to her being a pure bred concidering whereshe came from its quitepossable she isnt , I willwatch her diet a bit closer butit takes her a whole weekto empty a 5 inch sifter feeder , andshe doesnt get treats , Shedoes drink a lot of water tho much morethan the other one does,

If I was to estimate herage I would say fairly close toa year old , maybe a few monthsmore im not sure the guy whobrought her didnt give much information on her. so basically I am flying byhte seat of my pants as to age .

The feed should be changed daily. Inthis humidity, we never leave feed in the dish more than 24 hoursbecause the moisture can cause the feed to mold. It's alsoharder to tell when the rabbit is off its feed if it's only being fedonce a week from a large feeder.

Yay! More New Zealands! Lol!

I've tracked the weights of my New Zealands from the day they were bornbefore. Of course, feed and weather do effect how much they gain.Usually mine reach 8 3/4 pounds around 5 months; but that really couldvary. I free-feed mine on Nutrena 17 until about four months, and thenI cut down a bit... but don't get to the "cup a day" until they arenear to 10 months old.

Here are some pictures of my babies:

This one is probably a bit younger than yours...

LOL I cant rememberhow old she is off the top of my head butI am thinking close to a year old , when I got hera few onths back she was supposed tobesomewhere between 6 an 8 months old , in my opinion shewas skinny , I could feel and see hipbones shoulder bones etc . shehas come a long way in a few months I just wishthere was some kind of Nice Pill I coouldgive her lol .

The guy who had her did nothingbut feed her and be sure she had watershe has no people skills at all poor thing , lastnight she go sick of me and laced my leg in anattempt to get out of beingweighed chubby stinker .
