Meet Ollie.
Ollie was bought from a pet store, in early February 2006. He was born in late 2005, but we celebrate his birthday on the 21st of November, 2005, as that is what is on his records. We have never confirmed his breed, as he wasn't bought from a breeder, but the breed he most resembles is a UK Dwarf lop and has a broken black (butterfly) coat. He weighs, at his last vet check late last year or early this year, around 2.1kg. Ollie is an outdoor rabbit, and lives in a hutch just outside our house.

Ollie is trained in a sport called rabbit hopping, in which a rabbit must jump over a series of hurdles. He is also harness trained, which is required for rabbit hopping. He is a very mellow rabbit, and not much bothers him. He is not skittish or jumpy, but is very predictable, and may seem a bit unusual at first.

Photos.
This is just a random selection of photos, not in any particular order, from my time with Ollie. In the future, I will date photos, but, for the first post, just some random ones.

He is handsome! Until very recently I didn't know about any activities rabbits could compete in - How did you get started with him?

Well ...

When I got started with him, I didn't know any types of rabbit hopping exsisted either. I just randomly thought one day "Hmm, I wonder if Ollie would jump over these twigs". And he did. Then I raised them a bit and he kept jumping higher and higher. After that, I set up a pretty simple course, and he was jumping it really well. And so I just kept raising it, and testing him (not all in the same day of course, over a few months), until he was jumping around 30cm. Then I discovered rabbit hopping, and began to train properly.

So it wasn't really finding out about rabbit hopping, then starting, it was more of a spur of the moment thing which I thought would be fun. I was very surprised when I realised that it was actually a sport. And how high they could actually jump.

Ollie's height record (he's not too good at long jump), is around 64cm high, or 25.2 inches, or 2'12". Which is pretty impressive for a pet store bunny who was bred to sit in a cage all his life. :)
