I'm thinking about showing my bunnythis year at the county fair. I've never shown anything before, so Ihave a few questions about it that I can hopefully have answered. Themost I know so far is that you need to have a pedigree.

Firstly, what are the requirements? Is there an age requirement?

What are the classes? Requirements for the classes?

I think the requirements vary from state to state, but most would be the same, right?

Thanks

I live in CT so these answers have to do withshowing in CT. You don't need a pedigree to show arabbit. Your rabbit has to be purebred. It has tobe at least 8 weeks. If you are showing in an ARBA sanctionedshow, there is a minimum wieght requirement.

What breed is your rabbit or rabbits?

Classes are (for breeds under 10 lbs):Variety - Senior (6 months and over)

Junior (under 6 months)

For breeds that are OVER 10 lbs -Variety - Senior (8 months and over)

Intermediate (6-8 months)

Junior (under 6 months)

In each category (Senior, Inter, and Junior) they are broken down by sex.

For example: Dutch would be:

Dutch - Black Senior Buck

Black Senior Doe

Black junior buck

Black junior doe

You do the same for all the colors accepted for Dutch (Black, Blue, Chocolate, Gray , Steel, and Tortoise.

Another requirement to show at an ARBA sanctioned show is that theyrabbit has to have a tattoo number or it can just be shown as PET.

Hope this helps, Sharon

Each fair has its own set of rules. Ifthe fair show is ARBA sanctioned, it must abide by ARBA rules, but canadd its own classes (such as utility/pet). Depending on thefair, they may have both open and youth competitions.

The most important thing you need to do is to get a copy of your Fairbook to find out the requirements and entry deadlines.

Thanks guys! My rabbit is a femaleDutch, nearing 7 weeks of age. I think it is going to be a just a townfair, but I'm not too sure. I'm going to look at all the links posted. The fair will be in September, so she'll be quite a bit biggerthen.

Also, do you have to be in any type of organization to showa rabbit? Like 4H or something? I'm also going to show goats at thesame show (it's basically just an animal show, with cattle and sheepand stuff.) so I need to join something if I have to. I'm pretty sureit's not ARBA, I looked for shows that time of year where I live andthere weren't any listed. My sister is showing a lamb next year forFFA, so I'll be sure to ask him if he knows anything about rabbitshowing next time he comes to check on the lamb. I want to show myrooster too, lol, but I don't think I can since I have no idea of hisbreed or age.

Bammoxx, your Dutch will be under 6 months soshe would be in the junior doe class. You would need to get acatalog or booklet from the fair to find out what the classes are sinceit is not ARBA. You don't need to join any organizationshowever some fairs in CT require that you join the fairassociation....it should be listed in the catalog for your fair.

What color is your Dutch? Got a pic?

She's gray. I'll try to get someinformation about the rabbit classes soon. I don't have a picture but Ishould be getting a digital camera in early August. I don't think I'llhave to join an association, lots of people at my school show animalsthere and not all are in an organization.

Also, I was letting Friday (my bunny ^.^) hop aroundearlier and I noticed when she stood still, she usually held her tailto the left or the right, not in the middle, but when she was hoppingaround she held in the middle. Is this normal? Also, I was letting herexplore the couch and she had an accident on it. I went to clean it up,and noticed it was thick-looking, but not thick, and a darkish yellowcolor. I haven't seen rabbit pee in quite a few years (I had rabbitswhen I was younger, but didn't show them.) so I'm not sure if this isnormal or if she is sick. Please help with this too, lol, I'm helpless!I'm so glad Malo gave me the link to these forums, everyone is so niceand helpful :)

I would get a copy of the fair catalog as Pamsaid. rules vary from fair to fair.Ours doesnt require you to be in 4Hyou can show in open.in the next county the rabbits are 4H only.oursdoesnt require pedigrees but no mixed breeds.some fairs allow mixedbreeds.bluebird
