A bunny in the ear

That seems like a silly thing for people to get so up-in-arms about, lol. If it were me, I'd like the idea of a statue of me containing a statue of a bunny - who doesn't like a bunny??

Excerpts from the description on the petition page:
The South African government is known to overreact to small issues such as paintings and news reports, and use a sledge hammer to drive home a nail.

[The small rabbit in our former president's ear] resonates with the country because it's a small sign of defiance and freedom ... and there is no doubt that Nelson Mandela would have approved!

I signed the petition, with this in the comment section:
Anyone who's ever had rabbits will tell you that they're defiant, ultra-charming little rebels. Bunnies are unique, charismatic and far wiser than anyone who's never had one could even imagine. To a bunny owner, the symbolic value of a rabbit is priceless, intricate and complex - a hundred things in one.

Rabbits make their thoughts and feelings clear and are quick to call "BS" on something with a displeased thump. They epitomize freedom - even a rabbit stuck in a cage is free in spirit!

Rabbits have a seeming innocence to them, yet countless house cats (ours included) find themselves bullied by and fearfully avoiding bunnies they cohabitate with.

Bunnies mean business! If you're on their side, you're privy to snuggles, nose-bonks and undying devotion... but cross them, and you won't like what happens!

Having been slave to house rabbits for quite some time now, I can't help thinking that Nelson Mandela would approve of a rabbit being incorporated into his likeness.

Also, Nelson Mandela devoted his life to fighting for the freedoms people in many countries (like my own) tend to take for granted... and wanting to remove the rabbit from his statue reeks of oppression.

The reason for removal is ridiculously flimsy - "We don’t think it’s appropriate because Nelson Mandela never had a rabbit on his ear." Last I checked, Nelson Mandela was also never 30 feet tall and/or made of bronze.

One thought comes to mind above all others - "Someone's a little butthurt." I mean, really, why are people wasting time and money trying to get a little, symbolic rabbit removed??

I stand by George Carlin with this as with so many things in lie--"God must love stupid people because he made so damn many!" So, they hire someone and that's their signature--sounds like a tempest in a teapot and I don't see how it possibly diminishes Mandela in any way. Some people just like to run their mouth and if it gets them headlines, even better. Tired of all these media whores anyway.

Exactly. :yeahthat: :)

My thought is that Nelson himself would probably laugh at these idiots, and I'm not really being fair to idiots.
