Hi i have an 8 week old flemish giant. ive had him for about 3 weeks. He started getting the runs lastnight. It is still drinking water and somewhat eating. no solid poops tho. what can i do. Going to be taking it to a vet when i get off work, but does he have a chance? everything i read says it is very deadly... :(

True diarrhea - no form AT ALL - is very serious. Could you take a sick day to get him to see an emergency vet? I don't mean to scare you, but it could literally mean saving his life.

Rabbits ideally shouldn't be weaned until 8 weeks old, so perhaps that's contributed. Thinking of your little guy.

Do get him to a vet. It may simply be that he was weaned too young but, it could be serious.

I give mine pumpkin for the runs (buy solid pack, not pie filling.) But see a vet and ask if he thinks a TSP of pumpkin three times a day would be okay.

All pellets out - hay only. This is serious and he could decline fast. Water AT ALL TIMES. You could feed just a tiny pinch of old fashioned oats (NOT quick oats) and buy some neomycin sulfateis at the pet store. Is he bloated or gassy? Get some baby gas drops at the store just in case you need them.

He's got a chance but you got to get him to a vet... don't wait!! Please let us know what is going on.

I hope he is better and please keep us posted. You will be in my thoughts!

True watery diarrhea in baby rabbits is EXTREMELY serious. It's often due to the coccidia parasite or harmful bacteria. I know you will get your bun to the vet as soon as you can. The sooner the better. It could literally be the difference between life and death.

i made an appointment yesterday, but i came home and he had regular poops all over his litter box and was jumpin around and running around the house like normal. i think i just gave him too much celery for a treat and he is still too young to handle it. but yea he was very young to be weaned so that concerned me, he was only 4 weeks old when i got it from a breeder and they said he was ready. but he has been doing well and seems back to normal. YAY!

I have a flemmie and from all of the breeders I looked into none of them let the buns go until 10 weeks old.

With him being that young you may want to not feed him any veggies or fruit unless this is what the breeder fed. For young buns it is better to just feed unlimited, good quality pellets. A plain pellet as pellets sold with colorful bits are not good for buns and just there to make the food look attractive to you the owner. Also keep hay available at all times.

Hold off feeding veggies or fruit until 3 months old.

Any time you introduce a new food you want to do so very slowly and with tiny amounts. Watch for any signs of tummy upset and only introduce one new food at a time.
