Hi, so a I rescued a Dutch, named mocha and she started to produce milk so I toke her to the vet and they said she is pregnant. I got her from my school who mis treated her and I know that she has never been bred before. Could any one tell me what to do to help her through this pregnancy. Also what an go wrong during birth.. I want to be prepared for the worst! She is my baby and we are getting her de sexed after the litter is born. I have palpated her and there seems to be 6 Babies. Is this too many to be raised by a 4 yr old first mum. And can a mini lop raise the babies I take away if I take away some. I'm so paranoid about her now and I don't want anything to go wrong! Any help will be appreciated

Thanks 😊

There isn't much you can do except minimize the stress until she kindles. A Dutch can handle nursing 6 babies. If you have another doe that is currently nursing then you can foster some to her. Ideally, the age difference between her kits and this new litter isn't more than 1-2 weeks, or if the lop's litter is old enough to wean you could do that and move the new litter over. I would just wait for now.

Yes, for rabbits there's not much you can do when it comes to birthing, just let her be, and make sure she has plenty of food and water, and make sure she isn't disturbed right before and after the birth (I've lost a few liters to disturbances and such). You certainly won't need to foster any of the kits, the amount she has is perfect, and some might not survive anyway (sorry but some are runts and just don't make it). Also you can give your doe (mother rabbit) some greens, not too much, and when the babies get bigger and come out of the nest take away the greens, but you can put some milk in the cage for the mother and the kits. And there's not much else you can do.
