Hi everyone I need some help... I have a 8 month old lion head rabbit who gave birth to 2 babies. They’re currently 9 weeks old and I have gave them to my neighbour and they have never had fights but the last few night they were fighting, I took the one starting it backup to mine to be with it’s mom (they are all girls btw) and she tried to do the same to the mom but now they seem ok. We tried to introduce the 2 sisters back together but the fighting just got worse ...
Would it be best for them to be back with mom altogether and hopefully rebond? Will they fight with mom present?
Hi. They won't rebond most likely, 9 weeks is a bit early for the girls but usually babies get along until they are 3 months or so, girls even longer until 5 months, but it depends on their personalities as well. At 3-5 months (sometimes a bit later) babies become tenageers and become hormonal. As soon as you see hormonal behaviour you need to separate them because they will fight and can seriously damage each other. This is very common that people get two brothers or two sisters at 8 weeks and think that they will stay bonded forever, in most cases they will start fighting when hit puberty and you will have to separate them, neuter both then wait at least 4 weeks for girls or 8 weeks for boys and then when their hormones will calm down you can try rebonding them. There's no guarantee they will rebond, especially if they had a major fight already.
As I said, 9 weeks is a bit too early for girls becoming hormonal, I wouldn't be surprised if they were boys especially if they are dwarf sized, their boys become hormonal early, 9-10 weeks they can start humping each other and fighting. Again, it depends on their personalities and development. Girls would usually stay together until 3,5-5 months, then they also become territorial and fight. There's no option to make them stay babies for longer, they will grow into adults and will have conflicts over dominance and territory. It is quite rare when sisters can stay bonded for life, but not impossible, it happens sometimes.
In your case I would firstly check again their gender just to be completely sure, then if they fighting they will need to be separated before they injure or kill each other.
