I have 2 male rabbits that are brothers, we have had them since they were babies. They have been great together and seem to really love sticking together. Lately they have been chasing each other around a lot and humping each other. They haven't been hurting one another, but it's really mostly annoying and I've watched them and feel bad when one is laying down and the other starts to bug him :-/ It seems this is normal behavior but I'm wondering if having them fixed with help with this problem. They are about 8 months now. I want to get them fixed regardless but wondering if anyone has had experience with this situation. I'm hoping they stop annoying each other and we wouldn't have to separate them. Thanks!

At 8 months old, they really should be separated until their neuters unless they're being closely supervised... since they'll be somewhat bonded, it's best if they can still see/smell each other (just make sure they can't fight through bars). Rabbit fights can be vicious or even deadly and no matter how well they seem to get along most of the time, all it takes is one bad fight to have a serious vet bill (or worse) - they can't be considered truly (and safely) bonded until they're both neutered and the hormones are gone (which can take up to 6-8 weeks after a neuter for males).

This thread has great low-cost spay/neuter options, it's worth checking to see if there's anything in your area :)

I had the same situation with my two male litter mates. I got them when they were 3 or 4 months old. They were together in the pet store so I thought they were bonded and put them in the same cage together at home. About a week later they started to fight. I separated them and took them to a vet to see about neutering, hoping I could re-bond them afterward. The vet wanted to wait a month so I did. A month after they had been neutered I tried to re-bond them, but they fought instantly and I was so traumatized by how violent they were that I just decided to keep them separated permanently. I have heard of two male rabbits bonding, but my situation did not work out. I even added a female rabbit to our family a couple of months later and they both fought with her too. No luck with any bonding here!! I have wondered lately if I tried again in a year or so if some paring of my three rabbits might get along. Maybe they will mellow with age, I don't know.
