one of the main reasons for fasting before surgery (in people and animals) is to prevent regurgitation + aspiration (vomiting + breathing it into the lungs) while anesthesea is being given - (anesthesea can make you nauseous) for animals who CAN'T vomit, it becomes a moot point :)

In my experience, having an "approved" something to chew is VITAL in preventing chewing on "UN-approved" somethings - Even hay is included in that and the one time I ran out of hay for a couple days (BAAAAAAD human!), the boys just went nuts and chewed to death things they never touch otherwise...

another 2 cents about oral fluids - warm them up a bit (to body temp) before giving them - it will help the absorbsion process -

be very careful about putting things "INTO" him - if he is blocked or obstructed even a squirt of pedialyte is going to be harmful --- is he cold?? Flops got really sick and tried to die once and was soooo cold - i wrapped him in a heating pad and blanket and held him tight against me -...
