I agree that it is a maggot... I’ve had this happen before and best solution is to keep litter tray clean as often as possible! Also, I would hang up herbs and scents etc that keep flies away which helped
In New Zealand, most proper Flemish Giant breeders have pedigrees for their buns, but my doe and buck don’t and their babies always get presold before they are even ready to go to new homes:D I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to sell the babies easily Rachele, I wouldn’t worry too much as most...
OMGOSH that is soooooo exciting!!!! I literally felt a bubble of happiness burst within me!:) I never knew this could happen, but my sister who is a Flemish Giant breeder had this happen once - the mum miscarried one and then a few days later gave birth to 12 healthy buns. It must be very rare...
How big is the gap between her losing her kits and the other doe giving birth to kits? This will make it a lot easier to determine whether it is OK to transfer a couple of babies, as otherwise she might not look after them. That is very heart-breaking to hear that she lost her babies :(
first of all, what colors are the parents? Also, do you know what color the grandparents are? These can give a helpful tip on what the offspring will look like, is their vienna, broken, solid, butterfly pattern etc in their genetics?
My Flemish Giant boy sometimes has a nap with me in the afternoons :) I let him run around in my room when I can, and he literally lies down next to me and sleeps when I take a nap on my bed. Such a cute and bonding experience, I love it!
I thought so! I just didn't want to be wrong, as I've actually never seen a lionhead rabbit for real personally! the Flemish giants you got look like they have nice ears which is what you want on them! how old are they?
Naaaaaw that sucks... when rabbits believe that they are pregnant they usually make a full on nest but never have babies. I’ve had it happen once and it was confusing as I thought she was pregnant. Will you try rebreed her again?
Good luck! Keep us posted! One of does had her first litter 10 weeks ago, and when I looked I couldn’t see any nest or fluff. Nothing. I was 100% positive she had given birth though because she was a lot skinner and exhausted. Turns out she had completely buried the nest and 8 kits under lots of...
I have the same problem at the moment with my male Vienna Flemish Giant... he's 8 months old and I went to weigh him and he's lost about 700grams... he doesn't feel skinny - like I can't feel spine poking out or ribs, but he could definitely put on more weight around his body! he's very lean...
is there fluff in the nest yet or just made of hay/bedding? she will make a nest layout without fluff on approx day 28 although mine usually do this a bit earlier along the pregnancy. then 5 days later, or when she fills it with fluff, she should have babies.
I've always thought flop ear means not pure Flemish??? my Flemish Giant Doe is 13.5 pounds which is a bit on the small side but for New Zealand, not bad! your boys are beautiful though. they will most likely be crossed with Flemish, which is sad if you have been told they are pure flemish. A lot...
I'm guessing the offspring will look like either of the parents, not a lot of mix in colours. If the females colour is dominant then they will mostly look like her. Just like vienna mark and solid, all my offspring from solid mum will always be solid because she doesn't have vienna in her...
