We use an extra large dog crate. That's just his home base though as he is free roam. Rabbit cages are too small and way over priced. The grids are an amazing option as well and customizable

Ours is almost 2. His cage is left open and there are still times he bites the cage bars. Definitely drives us insane. We try to distract him. But at night it's not very fun.

We tried a metal hanger and he would just pull it off the cage. I've heard better things about hay bags etc Or using a tote and cutting a hole in the end or side for them to pull hay from.

Also make sure not to withhold food before the surgery. Rabbits are different than cats/dogs etc. They must eat. If not it can be fatal. Take his food with you as well. And they will feed him immediately after surgery.
