taking care of rabbits while dealing with mental health

I struggle with crippling depression at times. What gets me motivated to care for my rabbit on time, every time, without fail, is reminding myself how unfair it would be to her to give her any less. Sometimes I don't want to do her box every 2 days, but how would it be fair to her to make her...

Big changes coming for Freya. Advice needed.

My parents are moving in with us this weekend. The only available room is the room that Freya has lived in for the year that we've had her (she was born in March of last year and we bought her a few months later in July). She will be moved out into the living room. The living room brings new...

    thoughts on lennon the bunny

I love that she loves her rabbit, but I think she's nutty and I've learned through personal experience rabbits aren't the infant humans she makes them out to be

We're approaching 1 year. Still kinda winging it but she seems to love the ride.

She still won't eat hay. We just top her off on unlimited pellets and all you can eat dandelion, bok choy, cilantro, mint, collard greens, romaine lettuce, basically. She seems to control herself just fine.

Miss Freya was bought at the fair as a 3.5 month old in July of 2021. We've learned a lot, but my Mini Satin still has the privilege of being owned by, well, me? Lol I love her https://youtube.com/shorts/8FEyfkaorpI?feature=share

About 3 months of no hay

I'm going to get her checked for dental issues as a precaution, but at 3 months I'm comfortable with her personal gut and body and diet. I have a hard time believing so many rabbits would die when there were big, fat, healthy behaving rabbits in the literal hundreds in the same barn at the State...

About 3 months of no hay

We've tried Timothy and Orchard, separately and mixed. No-go.

About 3 months of no hay

Hey JBun, good to hear from you. I'm curious how long your picky rabbit went before GI Stasis would happen? Did the rabbit ever go 3+ months with the pellets or did it happen a lot sooner? Seeking this information to stay alert with Freya. I'll get her scheduled for a dental exam soon.

About 3 months of no hay

Here we are this morning, giving dad some loving because she knows she made a mess. Here is her box of poops. They never looked so healthy before. They were much smaller and much less of them. Today is box day. Box day is every 2-3 days. I try daily but 4 kids, other animals, and work pushes it...

About 3 months of no hay

Disclaimer: This is about my rabbit and my rabbit only. You should follow professional and veterinarian recommendations and standards of care for your rabbit(s) as much as you possibly can. If your rabbit(s) is anything like mine, you might find some comfort here. ... I posted about this...

I'm the only person who can clean our rabbit's pen

Our Mini Satin, Freya, will be a year old next month! We've had her for 8 months now. She's such a sweet, gentle, loving girl. With one exception. DO NOT pick up her poop or touch her litter box. Only I can do that. She becomes a different rabbit all together. She will growl, nip, and sit in...

Update on Freya: I'm done arguing with her about it!

My girl is a Mini Satin who comes from a line of show rabbits too! I received her pedigree when I bought her.

Update on Freya: I'm done arguing with her about it!

Freya is now 9 months old. As some of you might recall, we bought her in July at the State Fair. She had been eating Muesli. We moved her over to young rabbit pellets, and as she got a little older, adult rabbit pellets and leafy greens. We've tried a lot of different greens and she's generally...

    Bunny’s water bowl

Don't freak out too much. I don't say this as a particularly knowledgeable rabbit owner (I've had mine for 2 1/2 months), but as someone who wishes to point out that, in the wild where they're actually from, they don't drink from pristine water sources that we humans give them in captivity.

Hmmm. Not the reaction I would have expected if a food didn't agree with her.

No to all of the above. She remained her usual hyper, happy, food obsessed self. As she's gotten older she's eating more hay than ever. Being that she's a small 3 lb rabbit I always worry that she's not eating enough of it, but it can be hard to tell. What I did to make it easier to tell what...

Hmmm. Not the reaction I would have expected if a food didn't agree with her.

But I don't really know what I should have expected. Maybe diarrhea or outright rejecting the food. So Miss Freya has successfully eaten and enjoyed romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, dandelion greens, cilantro, mint, rosemary, and maybe something else I'm not thinking of at the moment...

    Red Dandelion Greens

One of Freya's favorite greens is dandelion greens. She's had the regular green ones for awhile, but the last two times I've been to the fresh market they've only had what's labeled "red dandelion greens". The stem is reddish green. Are these safe for her?

    A new noise

Freya makes a buzzing humming noise when she's running around licking us and doing binkies. For her it is a happy thing. The fact that your rabbit was at the vet and was also thumping, I have no idea.

    Netherland Dwarfs

I have a Mini Satin named Freya. She's almost 6 months old and is 3 pounds. I also got her from the State Fair. She's so sweet and has never been aggressive. When we first brought her home she was scared, but never once did anything aggressive. It took her maybe 3 days to warm up to us and...

Clean up question and question about the adult transition

I clean up my 5 months and 3 weeks old rabbit's cage, pen, and litter boxes every 2 to 3 days. A shop vac is involved, so I always entice her into a pet carrier with pellets and a treat to move her into another room while I do this so the noise of the shop vac doesn't freak her out, and so she...
