Rabbit died suddenly- has anyone experienced this?

That happened to a cat I used to have, but he didn't have a splay. I was so upset that had an autopsy done. I found out that he was born with a heart defect and he had a heart attack. So sorry for your loss.

We've lost half of my family's rabbits (8 out of 16) and we don't know whats causing it :(

So sorry. Watermelons is right. Good luck with your search for a vet that will help.

Do you have a farm store? Poultry dust which is used for chickens works on rabbits, but some rabbits react badly to it. It has the active ingredient permethrin and it works on mites. This is something I would only use if I had no another other choice, and not treating my rabbits would mean...

    Kaytee Wood Pellets Litter Safe?

Breathing in wood dust causes lung cancer, and that is what the warning is about. I have used wood pellets over 10 years and my rabbits never had problems.

    Teeth trimming

Genetic may have a lot to do with it. But there is no way Season can do genetic testing to find out what the outcome of a dental is going to be.

    Teeth trimming

So true. My poor fosters suffered from genetic problems, which could be seen on an x-ray. A veterinarian dentist was consulted with the last remaining rabbit. We were told that he could help the poor rabbit, but if the rabbit did not start eating hay, it wouldn't do any good. Rabbits can have...

    Teeth trimming

I fostered 5 rabbits from the same family and they all had teeth problems. For a full dental a few years ago cost $150 - $250. One vet showed me how to trim the front teeth with a wire cutter. She warned me that if the tool was not sharp enough, it could split the tooth in half, causing worse...

Bunny Contest! - 'Rabbits outdoors' - Win a Prize!

We still have snow here. It is melting and everything is wet or muddy. It isn't a good time to be taking outdoor rabbit pictures.

    Soft floor cover

Stall mats. A 4 ft X 6 ft mat is about $40 and 3 ft X 4 ft is about $22. A rabbit might chew on the edge, but that is the only place a rabbit can destroy it. A new one might smell until it gasses off, just like a new carpet. I think my rabbits got dark paws from the mat until the mat aged a little.

    White urine

I bought a baby scale for my rabbits and it works great. Your vet should let you bring your rabbit in anytime and weigh him without charging you.

    White urine

I trust the advise on this thread and I question the experience of those vets. Zuppa has pointed out good advice found on this thread and I think that information is very credible.

    White urine

Dark yellow can come from eating carrots. Thick urine can be calcium. Rabbits need to see a vet that works with rabbits and exotics. If you get a second opinion and that vet is not trained in exotics, he might agree with the first vet because he doesn't know what he is doing. I have gone to vets...

    Moving our rabbit outside :(

I used wire before to stop my rabbits from digging out. One of my rabbits cut up his feet trying to dig through the wire. That same rabbit scarped up his feet trying to dig through concrete. I ended up covering up the floor with rubber stall mats. It only happened with one of my rabbits, a mini...

    Moving our rabbit outside :(

We have coyotes in our area, and they can jump up to 7 feet. We see them occasionally during they day and there have been reports of them taking off with cats and small dogs. Putting the hutch inside a dog kennel works for dogs, but for a coyote, the kennel should really have a top on it. There...

Mini Rex with no Rex fur?

He is the cutest! Check out his videos on YouTube. It looks like some of the rabbits do grow hair as they age.

Mini Rex with no Rex fur?

If you google "hairless rabbit" you will find that hairless rabbits are rex rabbits with a gene disorder. They are being bred in warm climates because they can stand hotter temperatures. There are many pictures online of rabbits with this disorder.

    Help please what is it?!!

I have had problems with dusty hay before. Now when I get a dusty bale, I take a piece of hardware cloth ( it looks like the wire used on cage bottoms ) and put it over the top of a trash can. Then I throw hay down on the wire to knock the dust out of it. I use the hay on top of the wire and...

    Good rabbit books to suggest?

'The Private Life of the Rabbit' by R. M. Lockley. An Account of the Life History and Social Behavior of the Wild Rabbit. The book is out of print and so you have to search for it on the internet and Amazon has a few copies. It was copyrighted in 1964. I don't know how helpful it is, but it is...

Should I be concerned about his paw? (PHOTO ATTACHED)

It looks like it was cut too short. It will grow back and should be fine.

A bit confused on my bunnys breed...

Very cute rabbit! Dwarf rabbits don't always pass on the dwarf gene, so it is possible that your rabbit could have had a dwarf parent or grandparent. That would explain why the original owner may have said your rabbit was a dwarf.
