    Arthritic Flemish giant? Metacam?

Second this, first thing I started my bunny on was cartrophen injections (UK name for Adequan) and at the earlier stages that made a huge difference for her.

    Arthritic Flemish giant? Metacam?

    Well said.

    Arthritic Flemish giant? Metacam?

No, vets aren’t on commission for medication don’t be ridiculous. They are suggesting it because as I said before, animals can’t tell you they are in pain and veterinary professionals are in a position to advocate for those animals. And metacam is not the only option. Everything I said in my...

    Arthritic Flemish giant? Metacam?

Like you said, as animals can’t tell us I would always err on the side of pain relief. The slowing down you mentioned is likely pain related, as old age in itself is not a disease! There are other pain relief options as well as metacam, I first started my rabbit on gabapentin (and ofc joint...

Help getting to eat pellets again?!

If she isn’t getting better then it is already needed. Like I said, appetite stimulant is only limited in how much it can help if there is something more underlying, and she can’t survive off a few dried dandelion leaves. If she is eating plenty of hay then pellets aren’t a priority.

    Hello! - Seizure/rolling

Like above, needs to see a rabbit knowledgable vet ASAP. Seizure-type activity could be related to e.cuniculi, toxins, congenital issues (in a young bunny) etc. needs a full work up and close monitoring.

Help getting to eat pellets again?!

There clearly is something else going on, if she isn’t improving despite the eyes clearing up and appetite stimulation. If she is barely eating any hay you need to make sure you are syringe feeding critical care or similar. Has your vet run any bloods? Or imaging?

Help getting to eat pellets again?!

Is she on any other medication? Appetite stimulants are great but if the underlying disease process isn’t also being treated then success will be limited.

    Rabbit Beds

They are all different which type they will like too - mine won’t sleep in anything with sides so she has a flat dog bed to stretch out on (even if she usually chooses to sleep on the floor next to it instead)

    Meloxicam dosage?

(I am a vet in the UK with my own elderly bunny)

    Meloxicam dosage?

I would be starting a bunny on anywhere up to 0.6mg/kg twice a day depending on pain level, and then reducing down as far as is tolerated, minimum 0.3mg/kg usually. If a rabbit is needing the full 0.6mg/kg I would be considering adding in additional pain relief - gabapentin, paracetamol...

    Lump! Help!

My view is if you are going to put him under anaesthetic to biopsy you may as well excise the whole mass now to save doing a repeat anaesthetic to remove the mass later depending on results. It will also be cheaper overall than doing potentially two procedures. Obviously it all depends on how...

    Lump! Help!

If it was cancer then it would likely need surgery. The good thing is that location they will be able to remove with good margins if surgery is needed as there is a lot of excess skin in that area. Its impossible to predict what it might be while waiting for the cytology results unfortunately...

    Freya is hospitalized

sometimes bunnies do better with eating and pooping at home (less stressful) so vets might send them home if they aren’t eating well in clinic, with the option to return if no improvement at home. Realistically they should charge for any medication or care - it will be costing them, and it’s...

    Rabbit Sick?

Everything @JBun said! Additionally, teeth root problems are another possible cause of eye/nose problems so definitely best to get checked out.

    Traveling with a bun?

It really depends on your bun’s personality, mine regularly travelled back and forth to uni with me and wasn’t phased, but plenty would be. If it’s something you are considering I would take your bunny on some shorter car trips at first to assess how he reacts and get him used to it.

Bunny head tilt much worse after Vet, now having seizures! Please help!

Just to play devils advocate, it might be related to the medication but also may be related to the stress of the vet visit sparking something that was already brewing. Just a thought. Definitely advise to see another vet as an emergency.

    Uneaten hay

Leaving hay out shouldn’t cause a problem (as long as it doesn’t go mouldy etc) but you may find your bunny is less interested in it when it isn’t “fresh”.

    Bonding and spaying (question)

Just wanted to add in, even if her reproductive tract is still underdeveloped, at her age it isn’t going to develop any further so really needs to be removed whatever it looks like, especially as it seems the ovaries are working well enough to cause behavioural changes!

How to get them to eat new hay

I think mixing your old hay and new hay and gradually transitioning is the best option. If you don’t have any old hay left possibly try getting another brand of Timothy hay if that seems to be their preferred type. I would also cut down on pellets temporarily so they don’t opt to gorge on them...
