@pursource , do you have a dog kennel crate or are you able to locate separate enclosures for the male and females? Boy buns testosterone engages as early as 10 weeks. As soon as we saw ***** parts around that 8-10 week timeframe, they got a new apartment enclosure. We had a female group...

I volunteered at a shelter for numerous years and saw the influx of unwanted companions. - I hope you find a reputable DVM to spay/neuter, and if finances allow I would strongly encourage you to spay/neuter all little ones prior to handing them over to another human. We are well aware of what...

    Non toxic bunny repellent...?

The Midwest Homes for Pets gold zinc exercise pens (for canines) have worked well to safeguard chewable content in our home. Various heights are available and the eight panels can wrap around off-limit areas. Then we also separate a tempting chew-area with a brick spacer or two. The tan...

Your duration of abx was 28 days vs. 14 days (2 weeks). What abx did the DVM script?

    Random brownish pee puddles

She was pretty young when you adopted her from Oscar's Rabbit Rescue, correct? Did the DVM you saw mention anything wrt sludge? Sounds good that sludge is something on your radar. The vet assumed bladder infection and (perhaps?) skipped a urine culture? Any xrays taken? Medirabbit.com...

    I just want to cry

We rescued a female rabbit - abandoned on a country road - that may have come from a mink or fur farm. I took her in for her spay procedure. For the longest time, she would bond and allow hubby to hold her and pick her up, and Regina readily jumped in hub's lap. A suspicion is that a human...

    Rabbit not eating

When one of our agouti neutered males went into GI stasis, and was recovering, he would only consume cilantro. Didn't want to touch the other greens he normally ate. We have an established relationship with our DVM and from 20+ years of rabbit rescue/guardianship, the protocol to encourage...

    Rabbit not eating

I am extremely sad that you had this happen. Especially for the innocent newborns. -- Stress! Rabbits are self-induced ovulators - which means the egg is released after copulation. Unlike humans with menstrual cycles. This forum can provide much education on how soon males became fertile...

I, of all people, rescued a rabbit.

Our companions face many dangers from predators and humans. All rabbits who connect w/ kind humans are lucky to be loved. I glance around at the rescues or adopteds we care for, and know the stories of humans who view lagomorphs as disposable objects. After releasing one batch of rehabbed...

    8 week old bunnies

Males can start testosterone production at 10 weeks, correct? Our US rabbit-savvy DVM did neuter our rescue males at 3 months of age or as soon as those boy balls were descended. For females, our savvy DVM suggested 5 1/2 months. In the rescue network there are cases of abandoned buns...

    Rabbit suddenly not eating (RIP)

@EdwardV, My empathy or condolence hugs go out to you. Proceeding with a gentle PTS is never easy, so the final-act-of-love is often the best decision if there is little hope of recovery or bouncing back. Yes, nine years of your and Lola's love is something to look back on later - after...

Bunny cannot use fore or hind legs (RIP)

My empathy and condolences wrt the gentle PTS of Goldie. In the past two decades we did specialty care for hind-limb paresis buns, however never a bun who was splayed on all four or unable to use/stand with front legs. Sending hugs for your PTS decision of Goldie.

    New member!

It's A-OK if s/he's a mutt. Because I'm kinda considered a mutt myself, and all the rescued mutts or half-mutts mixed breeds we have had for the past 20 years were lovable in their own unique ways. You and Myer will bring each other joy and happiness in the next 12+ years. It is helpful...

    New here!

We have accepted numerous tattoo'd ear rabbits into our rescue. Some came as strays, some from high-volume shelters, and at the shelter we also saw surrendered rabbits with tattoos in their ears. We are happy when they find permanent loving homes.

When do you decide it is time to euthanize your rabbit?

wrt falling over and laying on one's side: This may be non-applicable but worth a mention. Our 7 y.o. mini rex cannot use her back legs. For a time she would fall over on her side, unable to upright herself from 11pm to 5 am. Or throughout daytime hours when I ran errands. We started doing...

When do you decide it is time to euthanize your rabbit?

Appetite, attitude, and affection. Look in their eyes as monitored over an extended period of time. Our gal with the fx'd femur managed well and had a zest for life and exercise for a year and a half after a callous formed over the fracture area. Her kidney function was declining toward the...
