Hey everyone! No pics today, was a busy weekend with my mom's birthday (and all of the family drama that comes with it! 🤣). Bucky's doing great, swelling has come way down and we just finished the meloxicam today. Only two more days of the enro!

Bucky is soooo sweet, I've always heard about how much stronger the bond gets when you take care of them through an illness but this is my first time really semi-intensively caring for one of my animals. Beeps had a crop infection once, but I was able to sneak his meds into his food so it wasn't as upsetting (mostly for ME, haha). Bucky's so forgiving it makes me tear up sometimes. Today, for example, I gave him his meds after a brief struggle, and right after he was pushing his head under my hand for pets and love. 😭😇 I love him so much. He'll be happy later to get his run time back!

Also... I'm in touch with a rabbit rescue nearby, calling later to make an appointment with some potential gfs. One of them is named Holly, she was a hutch bunny too so I think they'd have a lot in common, plus she's a rex and I just love rexes. The other is an agouti named Bella, who is SO FREAKIN' CUTE, and has been at the rescue for almost two years!!! She's only three pounds, too, she's just adorable. I'm totally torn over them, thankfully Bucky will make the decision and not me! Haha. Anyone have any rabbit speed dating experience? I keep going back and forth whether I should bring him in for a day and see who he likes best, or just fostering one at a time. He doesn't like car rides (can't blame him!), and with him being older I get worried about stressing him too much, but he does adapt pretty well and it would be much easier if he could pick his girl before we foster.

Don't be in a hurry to get him a girlfriend, needs at least 4 weeks for hormones to adjust. Can the rabbit rescue do the bonding for you?

@Diane R I'm not sure if the rescue would do it for me, they said they do offer speed dating or the foster-to-adopt, but didn't mention that. I'll ask once I call them! I'm aware that he's still a raging hormonal little bugger, haha. I wouldn't be bringing anyone home (or him there) for at least 3-4 more weeks. :) My parrot took about two months for his adoption (they make sure it'd be a good fit beforehand so it took awhile), so I reached out to the rescue early just to get the process started, as I'm not sure how long it usually takes for rabbit rescues. They're also aware he was just neutered last week, I've been keeping the rescue updated with everything going on. :D

I have to wait until after the 22nd though anyways, my grandfather isn't going to be around for much longer and I need to make a weekend trip out to Florida on the 20th to say goodbye. :(

@Mileybun thank you, he's in the final stages of dementia and recently took a fall in the shower. Hasn't been able to move much since then, so unfortunately it's a matter of time. :( I did get to say my goodbyes while he was still semi-aware, so that helps, but I haven't seen him in person since. :(

My dad just told me that we'll be taking another trip there within the next couple of months to help my grandma move closer to my aunt, who also lives in Florida but on the opposite coast. It's going to be hectic around here for awhile.

Sounds like a difficult time for you 😔 At least you have your animal companions to comfort you! They're good listeners too 😊
Best of luck with it all, prayers and good vibes for you🤞🙏

It's definitely not easy--had to put Nancy's mom in a care home as she was getting to be too much to handle. Always trying to get out the front door--double lock deadbolt took care of that. The final straw was when she tried to close the laundry room door on my are so she could go out thru the garage--blocked the door with my arm so she couldn't close and lock it--she bit me on my arm--HARD, too. She was 102 at that and lasted 2 more years.

@Mileybun thank you! Beeps and Bucky are my rocks right now. 😍

@Nancy McClelland Omg! No it is definitely not easy! I'm sorry about Nancy's mom, it's very hard seeing anyone, let alone a loved one, in that condition. I used to work in an ER overnight as a tech, so I have some experience with late-stage alzheimer's/dementia patients. The worst part is not being able to explain to them what is happening and why, it tore me apart to see them so confused (and often combative, as you've experienced).

Now time for some happier news! We only have one more day of meds to go. Bucky was FANTASTIC this morning, was very cooperative for his meds. I also have to lift him up in the mirror to check the incision, which I think he hates more than the syringe, but I've been giving him PLENTY of kisses and rubs to calm him down. He's due for a cage clean tonight so I'll get some pics then. :D

Good morning! Sorry for going MIA, it’s been one thing after another over here, haha. Bucky’s been amazing, demands pets now and if I don’t I get the thumps. 😄 He looooves having his cheeks rubbed!
For some reason his favorite spot to be pet is pancaked ON Priscilla. 🤣 Last night he pancaked next to her for the first time, but by this morning he was back to using her as a massage chair. 🤣

Good morning! I just had to say this before I forget!
I had a dream last night about RO, lol! I dreamt that I caught my vet on here looking at the forums!! 🤣 And then he turned out to be a moderator, or at least someone super well-known on the forum, the details aren’t quite clear. I was so excited to talk about the forum with him. 🤣 It was so weird, but hilarious that I dreamt about a rabbit forum. I think I may have a problem LOL!

Bucky loves exploring the living room! Even had his breakfast there this morning! 😀 ❤️ His favorite place is behind the couch where he can run back and forth - I think I’m going to remove the x-pen from the closet entirely and simply have a baby gate for him so I can have more room to add some tunnels, since the large waterproof pad I ordered actually fits the entire closet perfectly. I think he’d really like that!

His follow up tomorrow is at 3. The biopsy results came back and it was a form of cancer, I can’t remember the exact terminology, but it was one that effects specific cells and is usually completely cured with removing the mass! There is a possibility it could have spread - but the vet said with his activity levels and behavior she isn’t concerned enough to push for an ultrasound. 😁 He’ll be getting biannual visits instead of annual visits (regardless of this - with his age I wanted him on a biannual schedule anyways).

Follow up went GREAT, sutures are out! Hehe it was funny, on the way home from the vet I was telling Bucky (we all have conversations with our buns... right? :p) how I always expect him to be mad at me after the vet. When we got home, he was sitting in the "sentinel" position, very stoic, in the back of his room. When I tried to close his door he ran to put his head in between the door to stop me! So, per his demands ;) he got some free roam time around the bedroom, and was back to his good ole' loving self. He also had a lovely dinner of only the finest baby spring greens, romaine hearts, and a little bit of parsley. I took the x-pen out finally, too, so he has the entire closet now. :D

It's like he was sitting back there trying to decide if he was going to stay mad at you, then thought better of it when he saw that door closing🤣 He sounds like a character ❤️

With the xpen gone, if he's a chewer at all, just make sure everything is properly bunny proofed.
